There seems to be a negative stigma attached to being a skilled trades worker. We’ve heard it all “oh, you work in construction” or “if you don’t go to university, you won’t get a great job”. We’re calling horse crap on that one. There is already a huge shortage of skilled trades workers in Canada
—and it will only increase over the next 20 years.
It is our goal to get to the bottom of this stigma and make a change. Women belong in construction and shouldn’t feel threatened by a primarily male-dominated industry. Youth and women should be encouraged to follow their dreams into the skilled-trades and construction. Children should be learning about the concrete and wooden world around them. Let’s make that happen!
We created Build a Future to not only help grow our industry, but also to help those who might not otherwise think about careers in construction to consider our industry for what it is: a fantastic place to work and grow.
